Master degree in biochemistry/microbiology for a work on bacterial respiration and nucleotide metabolism. Earned a Ph. D. for studies on eukaryotic translational initiation complexes, followed by fellowships at The Danish Cancer Society working on retrovirus.

Research interests

Present research concerns the surface proteins of retroviruses both in respect to the infection process and the assembly process.

Recently the interest has been on the murine leukemia virus transmembrane R-peptide, to which we have developed an antiserum. R-peptide is located on the C-terminal, cytoplasmic tail of the transmembrane protein, which is cleaved off, rendering the transmembrane protein fusinogenic. We found that the R-peptide in the cells is attached to palmitic acid (Olsen, Andersen, 99) though it has not so far been possibly to link the palmitic acid to a specific amino acid (Zedeler, thesis, 2005)

 and most recent that the R-peptide and also uncleaved Transmembrane protein is bound small core like complexes (1,23 g/ml 150-200 s Gag containing complexes) which possibly is preliminary stage of virus particle development (Andersen, Diep, Zedeler, 06).
