Background

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has a long tradition for collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry regarding education of PhDs within the pharmaceutical sciences. The scientific collaborations between the Faculty and the pharmaceutical industry have increased from sporadic contacts to many scientific programs, including PhD students covering different topics related to drug research and development. The research collaborations between the Faculty and the pharmaceutical industry have been further intensified by the establishment of the research centres:

  • PharmaBiotec (1987-1998)
  • NeuroScience PharmaBiotec (1996-2001)
  • Centre for Drug Design and Transport (1997-2001)
  • Graduate School of Drug Research (1998-2001)
  • MEFA-initiative (1996-2001).

Within the MEFA-initiative (financially involving the Danish medicinal industry) funding was obtained to initiate 15 co-financed PhDs within pharmaceutical formulation and technology. Likewise, the previous graduate school, Graduate School of Drug Research, initiated a total of 15 co-financed PhD studies. The majority of these PhD studies had study plans including the DRA characteristic themes.
