Biostructural Research

Vision
Biostructural Research (BR) will obtain cutting edge knowledge and understanding of biological systems with drug relevance via structural investigation at the molecular level. The research of BR will provide and exploit the structural basis for design of new drugs. 

Scientific strategy to implement the vision
BR continuously aims at a broad integration of all methodologies and expertise available within the group, with a strong focus on common core projects. This significantly enhances the chance for producing cutting edge results with substantial scientific impact. BR deliverables shall be:

• Cutting edge basic scientific knowledge and understanding:
  Basic research focuses on determining three-dimensional structures and understanding structure-function relationships of proteins, protein-ligand complexes and protein-protein complexes at the atomic and medium resolution level. The focus of the projects is on cellular signaling events, enzymatic structure-function relationships and the impact of protein structural changes

• Structure based drug design and development
  All basic research projects should contribute to the design of new drugs as a final goal. BR activites shall be an integral part of the structure-based drug research at the Department of Molecular Drug Research, and involve national and international collaborations providing complementary expertise.
