Double degree PhD Programme

The Amsterdam Institute for Molecules, Medicines and Systems at VU University Amsterdam and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen have signed an agreement of collaboration in order to strengthen their joint efforts within teaching and research.

It has been agreed to start a double degree PhD programme to enable PhD students to obtain a PhD degree from both Universities. The PhD students will spend time, ideally equal time, in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, and fulfil the academic requirements for both Universities.

Each of the two institutions will initiate three PhD projects within the next two years, and each of the PhD students in Amsterdam will be matched by a PhD student in Copenhagen and vice versa. The first PhD projects will be announced shortly and are:

  • Development of pharmacological tool compounds by employment of privileged structures and fragment libraries” with Professor Hans Bräuner-Osborne, University of Copenhagen in collaboration with Professor Rob Leurs, VU University Amsterdam
  • FBDD of GPCR ligands guided by thermodynamic and kinetic properties” with Associate Professor Iwan de Esch and Professor Rob Leurs, VU University Amsterdam in collaboration with Professor Hans Bräuner-Osborne, University of Copenhagen
  • The driving forces for recognition of drug compounds by drug-metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes - Computational chemistry studies on thermodynamics of binding” with Associate Professor Lars Olsen and Professor Flemming Steen Jørgensen, University of Copenhagen in collaboration with Professor Nico Vermeulen, VU University Amsterdam
  • The driving forces for recognition of drugs by drug-metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes - Biochemical and biophysical characterization of thermodynamics of binding” with Professor Nico Vermeulen and Associate Professor Jan Commandeur, VU University Amsterdam in collaboration with Associate Professor Lars Olsen, University of Copenhagen
