The research focus is on development of optimal drug delivery systems intended for delivery of therapeutic biomacromolecules, such as peptides, proteins and siRNA. This type of drugs represents an increasing part of new drugs under development and in clinical trials.
The aim of our research is to gain a detailed understanding of the challenges associated with design drug delivery systems for a obtaining optimal and targeted delivery of biomacromolecules both by injection and by non-injectable routes of administration (e.g. oral, pulmonal, cutaneous).
We thus focus our research around different types of formulations including stabilized solutions, polymer or lipid based particulate drug delivery systems. These drug delivery systems are closely investigated and optimized with regard to the effect on e.g. the stability of these drugs (e.g conformational changes and irreversible aggregation of proteins) and the effect on targeting and controlled release of the drug in pharmaceutically relevant media or upon application to in vitro or in vivo models.
