The Shimadzu LCMS-2010A, here seen next to Lasse Bak, is one of two mass spectrometers available in the lab. The instrument is a single quadrupole instrument with both ESI and APCI capability. The instrument is a donation from the Hørselv Foundation. It was installed in 2002 and updated with improved features in 2008, the latter made possible by donations from the Carlsberg and Lundbeck Foundations. It is primarily employed for metabolic studies involving 13C- and 15N-labeling.
The Shimadzu GC-MS QP2010 Plus was installed in early 2009. It was funded by the Carlsberg and Lundbeck Foundations togehter with a donation from the department.
Dorte and Karsten are employing confocal microscopy to study protein-protein interactions by FRET technology. The Leica confocal microscope was donated to the department by the Carlsberg Foundation in 2004.
The lab is well-equipped for doing cell culture work. Anne Walls is sitting by one of four LAF hoods in two separate cell labs. Both primary cultures of mouse brain cells as well different cell lines are routinely prepared and employed for different purposes.
Linea Obel is seen here working with the NOVOstar multifunctional plate reader (BMG Labtech). It was obtained in 2010 and funded by a grant to Helle S. Waagepetersen from the Novo Nordisk foundation. It is employed in a number of projects to measure intracellular dynamics of Ca2+ and other ions as well as for FRET-based analysis of protein-protein interactions.
