Pharmaceutical Technology

The purpose of the groups’ research
Pharmaceutical Technology group is focusing on processing and material sciences around solid state and semisolid pharmaceuticals. This international group - headed by professor Jukka Rantanen - has 15 PhD students, postdocs and assistant/associate professors, and has recently established Particle Technology Laboratory (PTL) providing state-of-art lab environment for process research covering all critical unit operations related to processing of both small molecules and biomolecules. The group is aiming for understanding the chemical and physical properties of the active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients in relation to their processing behavior, and further, in relation to bioavailabity of the final dosage form. The research in group is focusing on facilitating the future implementation of Quality by Design (QbD) principles for drug development process.
Characteristic feature for our research is not only the world-leading quality, but also an attractive possibility for students to join one of our partner universities through our international network (PSSRC, Pharmaceutical Solid State Research Cluster). We have supervised students in several leading international academic units, as well as in several leading pharmaceutical companies.
For more information, see Pharmaceutical Solid State Research Cluster:
