Danish universities are managed by governing boards with a majority of extra-faculty members and appointed rather than elected senior officers.
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is headed by a dean, a vice dean and a faculty director. Together with the heads of departments, they comprise faculty management.
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has three departments that provide the framework for research and teaching:
The Danish Pharmaceutical Library, located on campus at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is the only public pharmaceutical library in Denmark. The aim of the library is to support research and education at the Faculty and serve the needs of the staff and students.
Part of the national network of research libraries, The Danish Pharmaceutical Library is open to the public and invites all interested users to benefit from its collections of traditional and electronic media. The library provides both compulsory and elective training and guidance in the use of its services and electronic resources relevant to the pharmaceutical sciences.
The library houses a collection of printed and digital books, periodicals, databases, etc., primarily devoted to pharmacy, pharmacognosy, chemistry of natural products and medicinal chemistry.
Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences receives the majority of its research funds in the form of a basic research grant provided for under the Annual Budget and Appropriations Act. The Faculty also receives significant resources for collaborative research from the Danish Medical Research Council, the EU, foundations, private enterprises, institutions and individuals.
Undergraduate and graduate students from within the EU/European Economic Area are not charged tuition fees. PHARMA’s total budget amounts to approximately DKK 270 million, of which teaching and research expenses comprise about 60 per cent. Costs related to the library and technical and administrative support functions amount to about 15 per cent in all, while rent and maintenance account for about 25 per cent.
