- Developing chemistry to understand biology
The overall focus of the medchem research group is the synthesis and development of new chemical probes that provide new information on biological systems.
Small molecules as well as modified peptides are designed and synthesized to study their interaction with different biological targets.

The research is multidisciplinary with focus on organic synthesis, molecular modeling, and structure-activity-relationship (SAR) investigations.
Most of the research projects address signaling systems in the brain. In these projects chemical probes are developed that can act in a selective manner on receptors and transporters in the central nervous system (CNS). Furthermore, research projects on epigenetic modulators with relation to both CNS and cancer diseases are ongoing.
The projects are conducted in collaboration with resarch groups in pharmacology, molecular and structural biology in order to investigate the effects of the compounds on the molecular, cellular and organism level.
The group is headed by the following Principal Investigators - click on the links below for an introduction them and some of their research projects.
