Molecular Pharmacology Research

The aim of our research is to study the function of receptors and transporters at the molecular level, and to develop novel subtype-selective compounds. Increasingly, we are also studying the function of selected ligands and targets ex vivo and in vivo using animal models and genetically modified mice.

Most of our projects are interdisciplinary using computer modeling and medicinal chemistry in conjunction with molecular pharmacology. Thus we use modeling of 3D structures to predict receptor/transporter interactions and to design selective ligands for chemical synthesis. For pharmacological assessment and delineation of the physiological function of the receptor/transporter in question, we use both our developed efficient pharmacological assays and phenotyping of genetically modified mice.

The projects build on collaborations with the Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Structural Biology groups at the department as well as many external academic and pharmaceutical industry collaborators in Denmark and abroad.
