The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers postgraduate training for the PhD degree in most aspects of drug research.
You can read more about the policy for the PhD programme at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences here.
A completed master's degree is required for enrolment in the three-year PhD programme. The PhD student must carry out an individual course of study, including a research project supervised by a senior scientist, and the independent writing of a PhD thesis to be defended in connection with a public lecture and subsequent examination. The PhD student must complete courses corresponding to 30 ECTS credits, as well as gaining experience in teaching or another form of disseminating knowledge.
PhD training is offered in fields of drug research in which research groups are active at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, preferably in subjects with interdisciplinary potential. The PhD student will join a research group of international standard within its field of research. It is a prerequisite that the research group can offer the facilities and guidance required for the PhD student to conduct and complete the planned PhD research project.
The international dimension of the PhD programme is ensured through the strong network existing between research groups at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and groups at universities and corporations in Denmark and abroad, notably in Europe. The network facilitates the stationing of PhD students abroad, as well as participation in courses abroad of particular relevance for PhD students. The participation of foreign students is correspondingly expected in the PhD courses offered by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Enrolment as a PhD student is open to graduates in pharmacy as well as graduates in other fields provided they have equivalent qualifications. PhD research training can be undertaken by employees in research institutions outside the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, or in R&D departments in the pharmaceutical industry. The PhD programme must be supervised by a senior scientist from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In special cases, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences may accept the submission of a PhD thesis from an author who has not been enrolled as a PhD student, or who has been enrolled for a shorter period of time than stipulated.
The PhD degree is conferred by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in recognition of the candidate's satisfactory completion of the PhD programme and public defence of his or her thesis. Completion of the programme reflects the PhD student's ability to carry out a scientific project involving independent use of the scientific methodology of the subject, thus furthering research at a level corresponding to the international standard of PhD degrees in pharmaceutical sciences.
