In general, research at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is internationally recognized and highly interdisciplinary. Many collaborative research projects are established between groups in different departments, and between the Faculty and other academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry, nationally and internationally.
Over the years, researchers at PHARMA have taken out a number of national and international patents for novel drug candidates and pharmaceutical technologies.
PHARMA’s Tech Trans Office has been established to further the transfer of knowledge and results to our commercial partners and to act as a gateway for potential new partners to PHARMA and our scientists. The Tech Trans Office is active in creating opportunities for licensing and research collaboration and welcomes all requests from potential partners.
To remain at the forefront of university research, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences channels its research into six strategic central research areas: medicinal chemistry – structure-based drug research, neuropharmacology, drug delivery, drug-oriented analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical technology and optimal drug therapy.
With the pharmaceutical sciences undergoing rapid development, there is significant need for pharmaceutical scientists whose background includes interdisciplinary training coupled with an academic and industrial research perspective.
To meet these challenges, PHARMA established the Drug Research Academy (DRA) in 2002 as a graduate school of research with an industrial focus. The Research Centre for Quality in Medicine Use, FKL, was established in 1999 to promote more appropriate use of medicines and optimize the economy of pharmaceutical products.
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences participates in numerous external centre activities based on cooperation with other academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry.
One of the latest and most ambitious collaborative projects is the establishment of The Danish Pharma Consortium in which PHARMA and several other academic institutions in the Greater Copenhagen area are working together to enhance Denmark’s ability to develop modern drugs and new, improved treatment methods.
Research across national borders is a priority. The University of Copenhagen is part of the Medicon Valley Academy project to facilitate cooperation between universities, industry and the health sector in southern Sweden and the Greater Copenhagen area.
The University of Copenhagen is one of 12 universities participating in The Oeresund University, a voluntary cooperation between Danish and Swedish universities in the Oeresund region based on geographical proximity, historical ties and growing regional integration.
PHARMA is a member of the ULLA Consortium, a collaboration of six elite European pharmaceutical institutions that gives staff and PhD students access to the combined resources of the universities in the Consortium.
